Embark on an unforgettable 7-day Manu Park Reserve Zone Tour, a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that takes you deep into the untouched wilderness of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Recognized as one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, Manu National Park invites you to explore exotic wildlife, lush vegetation, and authentic indigenous culture on an extended journey designed for true nature lovers.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Cusco to the cloud forest, where the Andean mountains descend into vibrant green valleys. Along the way, enjoy guided walks to spot colorful orchids, hummingbirds, butterflies, and playful monkeys in their natural habitat. As night falls, rest at a comfortable rainforest lodge surrounded by the mystical sounds of the jungle.
The expedition continues as you board a boat for a journey down the Manu River, gliding past pristine landscapes and stopping at natural hot springs to relax in the heart of the jungle. Your destination is a hidden Amazon lodge, perfectly located to offer the best views of the rainforest and easy access to wildlife-rich areas. From here, climb a towering canopy observation platform for sweeping panoramic views of the treetops, where macaws, toucans, and tanagers fill the sky. At night, join a guided jungle walk to encounter nocturnal species such as frogs, snakes, tarantulas, and exotic insects that only appear after dark.
Deeper into the Reserve Zone of Manu Park, your journey leads you to the Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, a unique accommodation managed by indigenous Matsiguenka families. This authentic stay offers a cultural exchange while giving you access to pristine primary rainforest rarely visited by outsiders. From here, explore the iconic Cocha Salvador and Cocha Otorongo lakes, habitats of the majestic giant river otters, caimans, howler monkeys, and—if lucky—the elusive jaguar. Canoe rides and observation platforms allow for unforgettable wildlife encounters, making this the highlight of your Amazon expedition.
Unlike shorter itineraries, this 7-day Manu tour gives you an extra day to fully immerse yourself in the rainforest. Spend more time exploring hidden jungle trails, discovering medicinal plants, observing rare birds, and enjoying the peace of nature at its purest. The extended journey ensures better opportunities for wildlife viewing and deeper connection with the natural and cultural treasures of Manu.
On your return, spend a final night in a cozy eco-lodge near the river, blending with the Amazon’s serenity. Finally, retrace your journey back to vibrant Cusco, carrying unforgettable memories of the most authentic and complete Amazon rainforest tour in Peru.

We start our Manu National Park Tour very early in the morning, with hotel pick-up in Cusco between 5:30 – 6:00 a.m. in our comfortable private bus.
On the way, we will visit the archaeological site of Ninamarca, famous for its Inca funerary towers (Chullpas) located at 3,750 meters above sea level. We continue with a short stop in Paucartambo, a picturesque folkloric town known for its colonial bridge and vibrant traditions.
From there, we ascend to Acjanaco Pass (4,000 m.a.s.l.), the official entrance to the Manu Biosphere Reserve. This is the highest point of the route, offering panoramic views before we descend into the mystical cloud forest of Manu, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.
In the Manu cloud forest, you will witness an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including exotic orchids, heliconias, giant ferns, and many endemic species. With a short hike, we will observe the Cock of the Rock (Rupicola peruviana), Peru’s national bird, performing its fascinating mating dance. Along the way, there is also the chance to spot colorful trogons, quetzals, monkeys, and even the rare spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus), the only bear species in South America.
In the afternoon, we arrive in Pilcopata (550 m.a.s.l.), where we will stay in a local eco-lodge equipped with private rooms, hot showers, and a comfortable atmosphere surrounded by nature.

Along the way, we pass through landscapes filled with coca plantations, tropical fruit trees, and colorful orchids, a preview of the Amazon’s rich biodiversity.
At Atalaya, we embark on a motorized canoe and begin navigating the Upper Madre de Dios River, one of the most important waterways of the Peruvian Amazon. While traveling downriver, it is possible to spot a wide variety of birds, including herons, kingfishers, and several species of vultures. The most impressive is the King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa), also known as the “jungle condor,” the majestic ruler of the Amazon skies. We make a stop at natural hot springs, where you can enjoy a relaxing medicinal bath surrounded by pristine jungle. If time permits, we also visit the Native Community of Diamante, where you will see their traditional houses, learn about their lifestyle, and discover the variety of wild fruits they cultivate.

Frequently Asked Questions – Manu National Park Tour
National Park vs. Biosphere Reserve
The Manu National Park is a government-protected area in Peru, created to conserve intact ecosystems for research, education, ecotourism, and recreation. The Manu Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO, includes the National Park, a buffer zone, and a transition zone, with the aim of promoting conservation, sustainable development, and environmental education.
Camping Sites and Jungle Lodges
In the Manu River sector, travelers stay in comfortable eco-lodges and camping sites built with local materials. Facilities often include dining areas, showers, toilets, and trails connecting the lodges. Mosquito nets are provided to ensure a safe and comfortable sleep. Lodge amenities may vary, so always confirm with your tour operator.
Drinking Water in Manu
Your tour operator provides safe drinking water during the trip. Some bring bottled water from nearby towns, while others boil, filter, or purify river and creek water. Always check with your guide for details.
Physical Condition Requirements
There are no strict fitness requirements, but being able to walk several kilometers on forest trails will enhance your overall Amazon experience.
Are There Mosquitoes?
Yes, like any Amazon region, mosquitoes are present. Bring insect repellent, long-sleeved shirts, and long trousers for protection.
Tropical Diseases in Manu
Cases of yellow fever, malaria, and leishmaniasis have been reported in southern Peru, but no tourists in Manu have contracted these diseases. Consult your doctor, follow vaccination recommendations, and take preventive measures before your trip.
Manu Park Accessibility
The park is open year-round, but the best time to visit is the dry season (April–November). The rainy season (February–March) can make road and air access difficult, and trails may flood.
Encountering Native Communities
Tourists cannot visit indigenous communities inside Manu. While contact with isolated nomadic groups is rare, if it happens, avoid interaction and report immediately to park authorities.
Biodegradable Products
Help protect the fragile ecosystem by bringing biodegradable soap and shampoo.
Climate in Manu and the Amazon
The climate varies by altitude. During May and June, cold fronts called “friaje” may cause temperatures to drop sharply. Bring warm clothing during this time, especially for evenings.
Swimming in Rivers and Lakes
For safety reasons, swimming is not allowed in Manu’s lakes and rivers.
Walking on Jungle Trails
Always stay with your guide and follow marked trails for safety.
Fishing Restrictions
Fishing inside Manu National Park is strictly prohibited. Only native communities may fish in authorized areas.
Climate and Weather Conditions
Manu is known for variable weather, with high rainfall and temperature shifts depending on altitude. The dry season (May–September) brings less rain and cooler temperatures.
Malaria & Vaccinations
The risk of malaria in Manu is extremely low (less than 0.1%). It’s generally recommended to rely on repellent and protective clothing instead of heavy prophylaxis. If necessary, basic medications are available in Peru. Practice good hygiene, drink only bottled or boiled water, and avoid raw foods.
Travel Health Tips
Stay hydrated, avoid eating from street food stalls, and rest when arriving at higher altitudes. Drinking coca tea (mate de coca) helps with altitude adjustment. In the jungle, avoid drinking untreated tap water.
