The Choquequirao Trek 4 Days is one of the most spectacular hiking adventures in Peru, perfect for travelers searching for an authentic, uncrowded, and truly breathtaking trekking experience. Known as the “sister city of Machu Picchu”, Choquequirao remains one of the last hidden gems of the Andes, offering a journey deep into remote landscapes where history, nature, and culture come together.
This challenging yet rewarding multi-day hike in Cusco takes you across dramatic Andean mountain passes, through lush cloud forests, and into fertile valleys filled with vibrant flora and fauna. Unlike the busy Inca Trail, the Choquequirao hike is off-the-beaten-path, allowing you to explore the untouched beauty of the Andes while following ancient trails once used by the Incas.
Along the way, you’ll camp under starlit skies, witness breathtaking sunrises over snow-capped peaks, and share unforgettable moments with fellow adventurers around a campfire. This trek is also a cultural journey—every step reveals Inca ruins, sacred terraces, ceremonial plazas, and intricate stonework that reflect the greatness of this lost civilization.
When you finally arrive at the awe-inspiring Choquequirao archaeological site, larger in area than Machu Picchu yet far less visited, you’ll feel a profound sense of achievement. Exploring its vast terraces, temples, and panoramic viewpoints is an experience that few travelers in the world get to enjoy.

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco (or meeting point at Plazoleta Regocijo) before 6:30 am and begin our adventure with a 4-hour drive to San Pedro de Cachora, continuing until we reach Capuliyoc (2,950 m / 9,678 ft) – the official starting point of the Choquequirao Trek.
🌄 Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch with panoramic views of the majestic Apurimac Canyon and the snow-capped Padreyoc mountain. From this spot, you’ll also catch your first glimpse of Choquequirao in the distance, sparking excitement for the journey ahead.
The hike begins with a descent of approximately 3–4 hours (7–7.5 km), winding through Andean landscapes and stunning viewpoints such as Cocamasana, where the vastness of the canyon unfolds before your eyes.

🌅 We start the day early with a hearty Andean breakfast at the campsite, fueling up for one of the most challenging and rewarding trekking days of the Choquequirao hike.
From Chikiska, we continue descending for about 1 hour until reaching the Apurimac River (Playa Rosalina – 1,500 m / 4,921 ft). Crossing the bridge over this powerful river is a true highlight, as it marks the lowest point of the trek.
🏔️ After crossing, the most demanding section begins: a steep 2-hour uphill climb to Santa Rosa, surrounded by lush vegetation and often under the welcome shade of the canyon walls. Here, we’ll take a short break to rest and recharge.
We then continue ascending for another 2 hours uphill until we finally reach Marampata (2,970 m / 9,744 ft), where a delicious lunch awaits with stunning views overlooking the Apurimac Canyon.
🌿 The afternoon is yours to relax and recover after the strenuous 1,500 m ascent—a true achievement for any trekker! You’ll also have the chance to explore Marampata village, learning about Quechua agriculture, traditional farming techniques, and the lifestyle of local Andean families.
As the sun sets, we enjoy a warm dinner and spend the night in rustic cabins with double or matrimonial beds, offering basic comfort at high altitude. Shared bathrooms and cold-water showers are available.

✨ Highlights of Day 2:
Overnight stay in rustic high-Andean cabins.
🌄 Today is the highlight of the Choquequirao Trek – the City in the Clouds! After an energizing breakfast at dawn, we set off on a 1.5-hour hike (4.5 km) from Marampata to the ancient Inca citadel of Choquequirao (3,068 m / 10,030 ft).
✨ Known as the “sister city of Machu Picchu,” Choquequirao is one of the most impressive yet least visited Inca sites in Peru. Upon arrival, we spend the entire day exploring the vast archaeological complex:
Here, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by breathtaking 360° views of the Andes, where culture and nature blend seamlessly.
In the afternoon, we begin our descent on a rocky and challenging trail back toward Marampata, taking in once again the majestic scenery of the Apurimac Canyon. Here we’ll take a short rest, enjoying the stunning canyon views and the refreshing breeze of the river.
🏔️ After the break, the most demanding section of the day awaits: a steady ascent back through Chikiska and Cocamasana villages, where local families offer shade and refreshing drinks—an authentic glimpse into daily life in the Andes.
As we climb higher, the landscape transforms: semi-tropical forests give way to Andean highlands, with spectacular views of snow-capped mountains and the vast Apurimac Canyon unfolding along the way.
Finally, after 5–6 hours of hiking (7.5 km), we reach the Capuliyoc viewpoint (2,950 m / 9,678 ft). From here, you’ll look back at the entire trail, retracing in your mind the incredible journey of the past four days—a mix of physical challenge, cultural discovery, and natural wonder.
🌿 At Capuliyoc, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved farewell lunch, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Apurimac Canyon.
