AVAILABILITY
We begin your Amazon Peru adventure by picking you up directly from your hotel in Cusco between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. in our comfortable, private transport—ready to start an unforgettable journey into the Amazon basin.
Our first stop is the Chullpas of Ninamarca (3,750 m.a.s.l.), mysterious funerary towers built by pre-Incan cultures. This archaeological site offers a fascinating introduction to Peru’s ancestral history and Andean traditions.
The journey continues to the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, famous for its colorful folklore, vibrant festivals, and its well-preserved stone bridge, which stands as a cultural landmark of the region. From here, we ascend toward the Acjanaco Pass (4,000 m.a.s.l.), the official entrance to the Manu National Park, recognized by UNESCO as one of the most biodiverse protected areas on Earth.
As we begin our descent, we enter the enchanting Peruvian cloud forest, a lush ecosystem covered in mist and alive with exotic flora and fauna. Along the scenic trails, you’ll walk among orchids, heliconias, ferns, and giant trees, experiencing the magic of this unique ecosystem firsthand.
One of the highlights of the day is spotting the spectacular Cock of the Rock (Rupicola peruviana), Peru’s national bird, as it performs its dazzling mating display. With a bit of luck, we may also encounter trogons, quetzals, hummingbirds, and even the elusive Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), one of South America’s rarest mammals.
By late afternoon, we arrive in the small jungle village of Pilcopata (550 m.a.s.l.), where you’ll check into our cozy eco-lodge in Manu. The lodge provides private rooms, bathrooms, and showers—ensuring a comfortable stay surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest. This is the perfect place to relax and recharge after an incredible first day of your Cusco to Manu National Park tour.
After a delicious breakfast at our jungle lodge in Manu, we continue the adventure with a short 45-minute drive to the Port of Atalaya (490 m.a.s.l.), the main gateway to the Alto Madre de Dios River. From here, we board a motorized canoe for a scenic 30-minute boat ride, navigating through pristine rainforest landscapes. Along the way, keep your camera ready—this stretch of river often rewards travelers with sightings of colorful Amazon birds, playful monkeys, and other fascinating wildlife.
Our next stop is Paititi Lodge, a cozy eco-lodge nestled in the jungle, featuring private rooms, bathrooms, and showers for your comfort. This will be our base for the night, offering an authentic yet comfortable Amazon experience.
After a freshly prepared lunch, we set out in the afternoon to explore the magical Machuwasi Lake (Cocha Machuwasi), one of the highlights of this Amazon Peru tour. Here, we board a traditional wooden catamaran raft to silently glide across the calm waters. This tranquil setting provides the perfect opportunity to observe the lake’s extraordinary biodiversity. With a bit of luck, you may spot the prehistoric Hoatzin (locally known as Shansho), various species of monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, and even the giant Capybara (Ronsoco), the world’s largest rodent.
As the sun sets, you’ll have the option to join a night walk in the Amazon rainforest—a thrilling experience that reveals the jungle’s nocturnal side. Equipped with flashlights, we search for exotic frogs, insects, spiders, and other mysterious creatures that only come alive after dark.
We return to Paititi Lodge for the night, where you’ll fall asleep surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the rainforest under a sky full of stars. With all the comforts of private bathrooms and showers, it’s the perfect end to an unforgettable day in the Manu National Park Cultural Zone.
We begin our final day very early in the morning with a scenic 45-minute boat ride along the Alto Madre de Dios River, heading to one of the most impressive natural attractions in the Amazon—the Parrot Clay Lick. This mineral-rich clay wall is a vital feeding ground for Amazonian birds, where you’ll witness a breathtaking spectacle: hundreds of green parrots and parakeets, from 3 to 4 different species, gathering in large flocks to feed on the clay. The minerals help them neutralize toxins from their diet, making this not only a vibrant show of colors and sounds but also an essential part of their survival.
After this unforgettable birdwatching experience in Manu, we return to the lodge to enjoy a hearty jungle breakfast before beginning our journey back to Cusco.
Our return route takes us once again by boat to Atalaya Port, where our private transport will be waiting. From there, we retrace our journey through the small towns of Pilcopata (550 m.a.s.l.), Patria, and Chontachaca, passing once again through the mystical cloud forest of Manu, with its lush vegetation, waterfalls, and the chance for one last glimpse of exotic birds, monkeys, or even orchids hidden in the mist.
We expect to arrive back in Cusco between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., concluding this extraordinary 3-day Amazon rainforest adventure in the Manu Cultural Zone. With memories of vibrant wildlife encounters, serene river journeys, and immersive jungle experiences, this tour offers a once-in-a-lifetime connection with the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.
