Here’s the ultimate Machu Picchu packing list to help you make the most of your adventure:
👟 Comfortable Footwear – Wear sturdy hiking shoes or trekking boots with good grip and ankle support. Machu Picchu involves walking on uneven stone paths and climbing ancient stairs, so comfort and safety are essential.
👕 Clothing Layers – The weather in the Andes changes quickly. Pack light, layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, and warm accessories like a hat and gloves for chilly mornings or rainy afternoons.
🧢 Sun Protection – The sun can be strong even on cloudy days. Bring sunscreen, UV-protective sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from the high-altitude sun while exploring the Machu Picchu citadel.
💧 Water Bottle – Stay hydrated during your visit. Carry a reusable water bottle with at least 1.5 liters of capacity. Avoid single-use plastic bottles, as they are not allowed inside the Machu Picchu archaeological site.
🍫 Snacks for Energy – Bring high-energy snacks like nuts, granola bars, or dried fruits to keep your energy up during your tour or trek. These are perfect for breaks along the trail or inside the park.
💵 Cash in Peruvian Soles – Some remote areas do not accept credit cards. Always bring cash (Soles) for entrance fees, souvenirs, or horse rentals if you’re doing a hike like the Salkantay Trail or Lares Trek.
